Killdeer

I've always liked Killdeer after seeing their "broken wing trick" and almost stepping on a nest.
Here's a little bit about the life of these birds:
They are named Killdeer after the "killdeer" sound that they make. They mostly eat insects. They are mostly brown in color on top with some black and white stripes and a reddish-orange circle around their eye, although they are completely white underneath. They belong in the family of plovers. Their *nests* are a hollowed out half-sphere in the ground. Their eggs blend in extremely well to their surroundings.
Here are some pictures and media from Wikipedia:

New Brainstorm

Okay here's my newest brainstorm.
Here's what you have to do:
Follow this blog. It's that simple.
Then comment and tell me what bird you would like me to post on.
I will post on it.
It's that simple!!

Happy birding,

Great Blue Herons

Today we went to Webber Park, MN.
A friend told us about a Great Blue Heron nesting site, and so we went to check it out.
After a ten minute walk, we arrived at a place along the Mississippi river where there is a small island. On the island, there are some cottonwood trees. In the cottonwood trees were Great Blue Heron nest. Like 100 or more. In every one was a heron. There were the male herons continually flying into the nests with sticks and food. I could have stayed there for hours. Sadly we only stayed for a half-hour.
I love this park(well, not the park but the herons :) )!!!

Birds and Binoculars

I've been seeing a lot of bids, mostly Robins.
Also I've been seeing Challenger, and maybe an owl(!!!!!)!
The new bird I've spotted is a White-Crowned Sparrow-one that I've never seen before.

(White-Crowned Sparrow, http://www.wikipedia.org/)
I've also been seeing some Goldfinches, which I don't see much.

Robins are back!

Only a little bit of snow left I was out with bare feet!
In the 50-70ies!

Woodpeckers

A few days ago I watched a Hairy and a Downy Woodpecker at work. (pictures via Wikipedia)

The hairy.....

and the downy.
I was watching the wood-chips fall down, and I was amazed that they let me get so close!
They weren't bothered with me at all.
